The First Date

What NOT to do

1. Do not under any circumstances ask a girl above the age of 16 to go see a movie for a first date

- The goal of the first date is to encourage a second.  A movie only keeps conversation to a minimum and creates an awkward scenario between the two of you. 

2. Do  not excessively plan out how the date will go. 

- High planning of the date will either lead to something going wrong or unnecessary pressure for things to go perfectly, or even both.

3. Do not talk about how much you like her. 

-It is only the first date you don't have to prove that you really like her, you just have to keep her interested enough for going out with you again. 

4. Do not try too hard. 

-It's easy to think that you have deep feelings for someone at your age, but dating is just as much for you to find out if you like her as it is for her to find out if she likes you.  If you have to try too hard to have a good time it probably isn't worth pursuing.

What to do 

1. Keep things playful

- First dates can be awkward. No one wants to say something and look stupid. It is your job to keep her from feeling uncomfortable. Make sure to smile and laugh whenever there is an opportunity.  

2. Go to a place you can talk freely such as a park or a beach.

- These places generally have great scenery and are more welcoming to conversations than the overused movie theater.  Having changing scenery as you walk or sit is important because it will offer up new topics to use in the conversation.  

3. Offer to pick her up

This offers many advantages:

-This will show you to be more of a gentleman than meeting somewhere. (she can always say no if she is uncomfortable with it anyways) 

- You get to pick the music, the right songs will create a happy mood.

- The changing scenery during the drive will offer up conversational topics (as well as things to make jokes about) 

- Dropping her off at home will end the date at a comfortable place for her if you wanted to try for a goodnight kiss.

4. Take a chance! 

- If things are going well and you are both laughing and having a good time you should kiss her right then.  You guys are on a date, at least one of you is interested in the other.  If she likes you then you will be fine. If you like her then it is your job to help her make up her mind.  Being on a first date with a girl you like means she is deciding if she likes you.  Girls will usually like you more if you kiss them than if you don't. Plus girls always love the spontaneous stuff. It gives them a thrill without the awkward build up like the "yawn move" at the movies.
